College Life

February 24, 2010

[tweetmeme source=”bySeon” only_single=false]According to almost every movie that pandered to the teen demographic, College can be summed up neatly into the following words; beer, sex, girls, frats, bongs, half eaten pizzas,  dorm parties and running to class in PJ’s after you’ve hit snooze at least 10 times. Well here’s something shocking, Hollywood has got it mostly right. Yup no false advertising there.  In college you’re going to end up in parties where Beer Pong aught to have a Grade Point Average. I mean some of these guys and gals are so good, nothing but practice could have honed such dexterity even when there is alcohol involved.

Last’s Year’s College “Anthem” was the Frat Party’s staple “I Love College” by Asher Roth. Roth who stopped by my college for a quick concert last semester managed to take notes from the “Hollywood Guide to College Life” handbook and made himself a one hit wonder.

Its 2010 now, and I’m guessing “Shots Shots Shots” by LMAO has taken the reins while some kid chugs some braincells away.

I should warn you though, Hollywood movies tend to gloss over the academic aspect of the College experience. It simply isn’t all girls in bikini’s taking a seductive pull from a hookah, no there are lots work to be done. Imagine I am only taking 3 classes this semester and already I am swimming in projects, homeworks and assignments. There’s little time for honing my own beer pong skills. However, I am not above tossing a few balls on a Friday night. The idea is, striking a balance between work and fun. Being responsible and knowing your limit is key to getting the most out of your college experience. Get your work in on time, study an extra hour or two so you can dilly dally away your Saturday night guilt free. Retire before midnight on Sunday. Trust me, Monday mornings will be a whole lot easier to stomach if you can stroll into your first class in jeans with a fresh shave and sunny disposition.
